The Sensitive Claims Clinical Review Panel was established to independently review and identify any changes to policies, procedures, guidelines and the clinical pathway to ensure that ACC is delivering timely decision-making and services to clients with a mental injury caused by sexual assault or sexual abuse (a Schedule 3 event) in accordance with its governing legislation.Copyright 2010 Digital Advance Ltd
Over the past three months, the Panel has received submissions from a significant number of organisations and individuals, reviewed files, considered the research evidence and met with providers of sexual abuse services and survivors.
"In early July the Panel met with the Minister for ACC and told him they were concerned that only half as many victims of sexual assault are applying for ACC support this year compared to last and many who do apply are declined or face significant delays in getting support," said Panel Chair Dr Barbara Disley.
"ACC's changes announced today mean that from next week new victims, or those with a new claim already in the system but awaiting a decision, will be eligible to get immediate support and this begins to address the Panel's concerns."
The Panel is not making any further comments at this stage and will present its report to the Minister in September.
