And now for the apology...?

A blog entry from Off The Couch by Kyle McDonald
I may be old fashioned, or conditioned by my profession to focus on “the relationship” but perhaps it’s now time for ACC to apologise.
In these times of “systemic failure,” independent reviews and Ministers who are unable (or unwilling) to take a position, there is still a lot to be said for a good old fashioned “sorry.” So what have ACC got to be sorry for?

  1. This is a particularly fine post from Kyle, so do click through and read the whole thing. I look forward to hearing an apology from Denise Cosgrove, Peter Jansen, Felicity Goodyear-Smith, Nick Smith and all the other decision-makers and influence-holders for failing in their responsibilities to the people of this country - but I'm not holding my breath. I think Barbara Disley and the rest of the panel deserve huge kudos for their work.

    Excellent Kyle.

An apology is the very least that is called for, and the fact that I haven't seen one from any of the people you list reinforces my belief that ACC has somehow developed a sick culture, and requires a review - not one to set it up to be privatised (Minister Smith's agenda) but a review of its current policies and practices against the Woodhouse principles that New Zealanders are so proud of, and which are the envy of other countries.

  3. I totally agree - the apologies have been non-existent. However, it is with interest that I note that the Sensitive Claims Unit Manager of the Clinical Pathways - MIchael Watson (and Team Manager) - is leaving the SCU and, ACC all together. His exit from the toxic sensitive claims unit is with effect Friday 24th September 2010.

Leaving so that they don't have to actually apologise. They are a bunch of cowards, egotistical and incompetent.

I hope that there are more exits or resignations, including Dr Jackass Jansen.

  4. Well that is interesting about Michael Watson but it really needs to be Peter Jansen who leaves ACC as it is his pathway. He is the "Professional" who lead the steering group that brought in the changes and has been the figure head defending the changes and ignoring all the Professionals and Organisations concerns. It is also him and his brother David (and one other) who were given over $600,000 by the Health Research Council to research Maori needs in Health/Disability and ACC services, then he went on to forgot about Maori in this pathway he designed.

I think he has cost this country MORE than enough and produced NOTHING other than heartache.

Yet, for some reason National love the man and have appointed him to Tony Ryall's Health Quality and Safety Commission (HQSC). If this pathway reflects his knowledge on Health Quality and Safety...... God help us all!

  5. I have heard from "good sources" that Maoridom are having 'words' in appropriate quarters about Jackass Jansen's appointment to Tony Ryall's Health Quality and Safety Commission....and as for Jansen's pet project and that of Michael Watson managing the pathways within the sensitive claims unit, watch this space.
